Identifying Connectivity Conservation Priorities among Protected Areas in Qinling-Daba Mountains, China

چکیده

Mountain biodiversity is under unprecedented threat due to climate change and excessive human activity. Although protected areas (PAs) are the cornerstone of nature conservation, it increasingly hard for isolated PAs maintain species ecological processes they depend on in long term. Linking reserves form a large connected conservation network regarded as optimal measure, but research this field lacking China. We mapped Qinling-Daba Mountains China identified corridors among corridors’ key nodes using least-cost analysis circuit theory model an connectivity region. The results showed that has 46 habitat patches by 88 corridors, with 69 pinchpoints, 86 barriers 37 stepping stones around corridors. In study, 34.86% suitable habitats have little or no protection and, future, these should be developed caution, more emphasis protecting their connectivity. This study used construct based PAs, providing framework at biogeographic scale scientific reference further, subsequent actions.

A new species of the genus Sovia (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae) from Qinling-Daba Mountains of China.

In this paper, a new species Sovia lii spec. nov. is described from Qinling-Daba Mountains in S. Gansu province and S. Shaanxi province, W. China. Variability of wing pattern, differences with its similar congeners and some biological information of this new taxon are introduced. External variability of Sovia lucasii, which is discovered from Shaanxi for the first time and is sympatric with the...

Hopes and challenges for giant panda conservation under climate change in the Qinling Mountains of China

One way that climate change will impact animal distributions is by altering habitat suitability and habitat fragmentation. Understanding the impacts of climate change on currently threatened species is of immediate importance because complex conservation planning will be required. Here, we mapped changes to the distribution, suitability, and fragmentation of giant panda habitat under climate ch...

Paleozoic metamorphism in the Qinling orogen, Tongbai Mountains, central China

The Qinling orogen (Fig. 1) extends for over 2000 km across central China, separating the Archean and Proterozoic Sino-Korean block in the north from the Proterozoic Yangtze block in the south. Although the orogen has been recognized as a continental collision zone for some time, the nature, age, and duration of the collision have been the subject of considerable debate (see review in Hacker et...

Identifying Corridors among Large Protected Areas in the United States.

Conservation scientists emphasize the importance of maintaining a connected network of protected areas to prevent ecosystems and populations from becoming isolated, reduce the risk of extinction, and ultimately sustain biodiversity. Keeping protected areas connected in a network is increasingly recognized as a conservation priority in the current era of rapid climate change. Models that identif...

Postconflict behavior among Rhinopithecus roxellana leader males in the Qinling Mountains, China

Since reconciliation was first described more than 20 years ago, a large number of postconflict behaviors have been observed among females in many polygynous primate species. However, few studies have been conducted among males, perhaps due to the rarity with which they maintain friendly relationships with one another and their aggressive competition for resources. Although this is true for man...
